It also engages in the development of Poinciana Parkway and Toll Road. In addition, Avatar Holdings engages in other real estate activities, such as the operation of amenities, the sale of commercial and industrial land for third-party development, and the operation of a title insurance agency. Further, the company engages in rental and other operations, including a small community shopping center in Rio Rico, and recreational facilities. As of December 31, 2008, it owned approximately 16,700 acres of developed, partially developed, or developable residential, commercial, and industrial property. The company was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida.
