The company owns and operates three natural gas pipeline systems to transport and store natural gas for marketers, local distribution companies, producers, electric power generation plants, interstate and intrastate pipelines, and direct industrial users. As of December 31, 2008, the company owned and operated approximately 14,000 miles of pipeline directly serving customers in 12 states and indirectly serving customers in the northeastern and southeastern United States; and owned 11 underground storage fields in 4 states with working gas capacity of approximately 160.0 billion cubic feet. Boardwalk GP, LP serves as the general partner of the company. The company was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Boardwalk Pipeline Partners, LP is a subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipelines Holding Corp.
