Commerce Bancshares, Inc., a bank holding company, engages in general banking business. It offers retail, corporate, investment, trust, and asset management products and services to individuals and businesses. The company's activities include underwriting credit life and accident insurance, health insurance, and selling property and casualty insurance products; and engaging in venture capital investment, securities brokerage, mortgage banking, and leasing, as well as commercial banking and real estate activities. It operates through three segments: Consumer, Commercial, and Money Management. The Consumer segment includes a retail branch network, consumer installment lending, personal mortgage banking, bank card activities, student lending, and discount brokerage services. The Commercial segment provides corporate lending, leasing, and international services, as well as business and government deposits, and cash management services. The Money Management segment provides traditional trust and estate tax planning services, and advisory and discretionary investment portfolio management services to personal and institutional corporate customers. It also manages mutual funds for trust and general retail customers. In addition, this segment sells fixed income investments to individuals and institutional investors. In addition, the company offers online banking and telephone banking services. As of December 31, 2008, Commerce Bancshares operated a network of 217 full-service branches and an ATM network of 404 machines in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. Commerce Bancshares was founded in 1966 and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
