As of December 31, 2008, the company operated 64 correctional and detention facilities, including 44 facilities located in 19 states and the District of Columbia, as well as 2 additional correctional facilities that are leased to third-party operators. It also managed 20 correctional and detention facilities owned by government agencies. Corrections Corporation serves federal, state, and local correctional and detention authorities. The company was founded in 1983 and is based in Nashville, Tennessee.
