Its data centers are used by technology companies to house, power, and cool the computer servers that support their critical business processes. The company also provides property management, development, leasing, asset management, and technical services to the tenants of its operating properties. As of December 31, 2008, it had six operating properties in Northern Virginia and suburban Chicago, Illinois, as well as development properties in Ashburn, Virginia; Piscataway, New Jersey; and Santa Clara, California. The company was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
