It owns and operates two restaurant concepts in the casual dining and family dining niches under the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar (Applebee's) and International House of Pancakes (IHOP) brand names. Applebee's restaurants offer moderately-priced food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage items, and table service. As of December 31, 2008, the company had 2,004 Applebee's restaurants, including 1,598 franchisees-operated and 406 company-operated restaurants. Its IHOP restaurants feature full table service and offer a range of moderately priced breakfast specialties, lunch, dinner, and snack items. As of December 31, 2008, the company had 1,396 IHOP restaurants comprising 1,225 franchisees-operated, 160 licensed, and 11 company-operated restaurants. It was formerly known as IHOP Corp. and changed its name to DineEquity, Inc. in June 2008. The company was founded in 1976 and is based in Glendale, California.
