The company generates electricity through coal-fired power plants. As of December 31, 2008, DPL distributed electricity to approximately 515,000 retail customers. The company also provides transmission and wholesale electric service to various municipal customers. It serves automotive, food processing, paper, plastic manufacturing, and defense industries. The company was founded in 1985 and is based in Dayton, Ohio.
