Dynex Capital, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as a mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT). The company primarily invests in securitized residential and commercial mortgage loans and non-agency mortgage-backed securities, as well as through a joint venture in commercial mortgage-backed securities. It finances its investments through a combination of repurchase agreements, securitization financing, and equity capital. The company has elected to be treated as a REIT for federal income tax purposes and would not be subject to income tax, if it distributes at least 90% of its REIT taxable income to its share holders. The company was founded in 1987 and is based in Glen Allen, Virginia.
