Entergy Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, operates as an integrated energy company. It engages primarily in electric power production and retail electric distribution operations in the United States. The company generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electric power in Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana, including the City of New Orleans. It also operates a natural gas distribution business. In addition, the company owns and operates nuclear power plants located in the northern United States, as well as sells electric power produced by those plants primarily to wholesale customers. As of December 31, 2008, it had approximately 30,000 MW of aggregate electric generating capacity and served approximately 2.7 million utility customers. Entergy Corporation was founded in 1989 and is based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
