The Real Estate segment secures entitlements and develops infrastructure on its lands for single-family residential and mixed-use communities, and manages its undeveloped land and commercial operating properties. The Mineral Resources segment manages and leases its oil and gas mineral interests in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia. This segment promotes exploitation, exploration, and development of oil and gas. The Fiber Resources segment sells wood fiber from its land, as well as leases land for recreational uses. As of December 31, 2008, the company owned directly or through ventures approximately 365,000 acres of real estate located in 10 states and 13 markets, and approximately 622,000 net acres of oil and gas mineral interests. Forestar Group Inc. was formerly known as Forestar Real Estate Group Inc. and changed its name to Forestar Group Inc. in 2008. The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas. Forestar Group, Inc. operates independently of Temple-Inland Inc. as of December 28, 2007.
