Its properties include senior housing facilities, medical office buildings, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and other healthcare facilities, including laboratory and office buildings. Health Care Property Investors has elected to be treated as a REIT for federal income tax purposes and would not be subject to income tax, if it distributes approximately 90% of its taxable income to its share holders. The company was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Long Beach, California.
