HSBC Finance Corporation provides credit cards and retail services in the United States. It offers MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover receivables credit cards originated under various brand names, including Household Bank, Orchard Bank, HSBC, and the Direct Merchants Bank. The company also originates private label credit cards. In addition, HSBC Finance Corporation designs and distributes term life, credit life, unemployment, accidental death and disability, whole life, annuities, disability, long term care, and a range of specialty insurance products; and provides the United States tax-related financial products to consumers through unaffiliated H&R Block tax preparer locations and tax preparation software providers. It markets its credit cards through direct mail and strategic partnerships. The company was formerly known as Household International, Inc. and changed its name to HSBC Finance Corporation as a result of merger with its wholly-owned subsidiary Household Finance Corporation. The company was founded in 1925 and is based in Mettawa, Illinois. HSBC Finance Corporation is a subsidiary of HSBC Investments (North America) Inc.
