Hatteras Financial Corp. operates as an externally-managed mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT). It invests in adjustable-rate and hybrid adjustable-rate single-family residential mortgage pass-through securities guaranteed or issued by the United States Government agency, or by the United States Government-sponsored entity. The company has elected to be taxed as a REIT and would not be subject to federal corporate income tax if it distributes at least 100% of its taxable income to its stockholders. Hatteras Financial Corp. was founded in 2007 and is based in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
