J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as a surface transportation company in North America. It transports a range of freight, including general merchandise, food and beverages, forest and paper products, building materials, chemicals, and automotive parts. The company operates in four segments: Intermodal (JBI), Dedicated Contract Services (DCS), Full-Load Dry-Van (JBT), and Integrated Capacity Solutions (ICS). The JBI segment provides intermodal freight solutions, and seamless coordination of the rail and dray movements. The DCS segment offers transportation services that are not provided by common truckload carriers or intermodal. The JBT segment offers full-load and dry-van freight through company owned tractors or independent contractors. The ICS segment provides non-asset and asset-light transportation solutions, including flatbed, and refrigerated and less-than-truckload services, as well as various dry van and intermodal solutions. As of December 31, 2008, the JBI segment operated 39,161 company-controlled containers and managed a fleet of 2,124 company-owned tractors; the DCS segment operated 4,454 company-controlled, 101 customer-owned trucks, and 67 independent contractor trucks; and the JBT segment operated 2,489 company-owned tractors. The company was founded in 1961 and is headquartered in Lowell, Arkansas.
