Lloyds Banking Group plc provides banking and financial services in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe. It operates through three segments: UK Retail Banking, Insurance and Investments, and Wholesale and International Banking. The UK Retail Banking segment provides banking and other financial services to personal customers, private banking, and mortgages; current accounts; savings accounts; personal loans; card-based products and services, including credit and debit cards, and card transaction processing services for retailers; wealth management solutions, including financial planning and advice, and financial solutions for investments, retirement planning and income, trusts, tax and estate planning, and share dealing; and relationship banking services. The Insurance and Investments segment offers retail life, pensions, and investment products to corporate pension schemes, local authorities, and other institutions through independent financial advisors, and telephone and Internet; general insurance; unit-linked policies, annuities, term assurances, and health insurance; and other long-term savings products. The Wholesale and International Banking segment provides corporate banking and related services to multinational corporates and financial institutions, and small and medium-sized UK businesses; asset finance, including personal lending, store credit, and finance through leasing, hire purchase, and contract hire packages to personal and corporate customers; and international banking and financial services. As of December 31, 2008, it operated through 1,950 branches of Lloyds TSB Bank, Lloyds TSB Scotland plc, and Cheltenham & Gloucester plc; and 4,200 ATMs. The company was formerly known as Lloyds TSB Group plc and changed its name to Lloyds Banking Group plc as a result of its acquisition of HBOS plc in January 2009. Lloyds Banking Group plc was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom.
