Provident New York Bancorp operates as the bank holding company for Provident Bank that provides commercial, community, and retail banking products and services to businesses and individuals in New York and New Jersey. The company offers various deposit products, which consist of savings accounts, NOW accounts, checking accounts, money market accounts, club accounts, certificates of deposit, IRAs, and other qualified plan accounts. Its lending activities include the origination of commercial real estate loans, commercial business loans and acquisition, development and construction loans, and residential mortgage loans collateralized by one-to-four-family residential real estate properties, as well as provision of consumer loans comprising homeowner loans, home equity lines of credit, new and used automobile loans, and personal unsecured loans, such as fixed-rate installment loans and variable lines of credit. As of September 30, 2008, it operated 33 banking offices, including 32 branches located in Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Westchester, and Putnam Counties in New York, and one branch in Bergen County, New Jersey. Provident New York Bancorp, through its subsidiaries, also provides investment advisory and title insurance agency services. The company, formerly known as Provident Bancorp, Inc., was founded in 1888 and is based in Montebello, New York.
