PPL Corporation, through its subsidiaries, engages in the generation and marketing of electricity in the northeastern and western United States. It generates energy from various fuel sources, including coal, uranium, natural gas, oil, and water. The company also delivers electricity to approximately 4 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United States; and the United Kingdom. As of December 31, 2008, it operated 367 substations with a total capacity of approximately 30 million kVA; 33,011 circuit miles of overhead lines; and 7,227 cable miles of underground conductors. PPL Corporation provides its services to retail, commercial, industrial, and natural gas customers. The company was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
