Its principal properties in Mexico comprise the Nieves property, which is located in Zacatecas State, Mexico; the Mirasol and Americas projects located in the Municipality of Simon Bolivar, Durango, Mexico; and Los Crestones exploration concessions in northern Durango state of west-central Mexico. The company was formerly known as Aquaterre Mineral Development Ltd. and changed its name to Quaterra Resources Inc. in October 1997. The company was incorporated in 1993 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.
