FreightCar America, Inc. engages in manufacturing, rebuilding, repairing, selling, and leasing freight cars used for hauling coal, other bulk commodities, steel and other metals, forest products, and automobiles in North America. It primarily designs and manufactures aluminum-bodied and steel-bodied railcars. The company offers two types of coal-carrying railcars, gondolas and open-top hoppers; and triple hopper, and hybrid aluminum/stainless steel and flat bottom gondola railcars. FreightCar America also provides other railcar types, such as AVC aluminum vehicle carrier, articulated bulk container, intermodal double stack, small cube covered hopper, mill gondola, slab and coil steel, flat, bulkhead flat, hybrid center beam flat, woodchip gondola, and other open-top hopper railcars. In addition, it refurbishes and rebuilds railcars, as well as sells forged, cast, and fabricated parts for railcars. FreightCar America's customers comprise financial institutions, railroads, and shippers. The company was founded in 1901 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
