Redwood Trust, Inc., a financial institution, together with its subsidiaries, engages in investing in, financing, and managing residential and commercial real estate loans and securities. It also sponsors securitization entities, which issue asset-backed securities, as well as purchases credit-sensitive securities with a shorter duration. For federal income tax purposes, the company is structured as a real estate investment trust (REIT). As a REIT, it would not be subject to federal corporate income taxes if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its shareholders. Redwood Trust, Inc. was founded in 1994 and is based in Mill Valley, California.
