It also supplies water on a wholesale basis to 6 municipalities, including population of approximately 3.2 million in the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region. Companhia de Saneamento also operates in drainage, urban cleaning, solid waste handling, and energy markets. As of December 31, 2007, the company distributed water to approximately 23.0 million people through approximately 62,318 kilometers of water pipes and mains to approximately 6.8 million water connections. In addition, it provided sewage services to approximately 18.9 million people through 40,608 kilometers of sewer lines to approximately 5.2 million sewage connections. The company was founded in 1954 and is headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
