Schmitt Industries, Inc. engages in the design, assembly, marketing, and distribution of electronic and mechanical components for machine tool products and laser measurement systems worldwide. It operates in two segments, Balancer and Measurement. The Balancer segment designs, manufactures, and markets computer-controlled balancing equipment primarily to the machine tool industry. Its principal product include Schmitt Dynamic Balance System that consists of a computer control unit, sensor, spindle-mounting adapter, and balance head, which are designed as permanent installation on grinding machines. This segment serves machine tool builders, machine tool rebuilders, and grinding machine users. The Measurement segment engages in the manufacture and marketing of a line of laser-based precision test and measurement products, and ultrasonic products for measuring the capacity and volume of large chemical storage tanks, such as liquid propane; and operation of a precision laser light scatter measurement laboratory. Its products include surface measurement products that comprise TMS-2000-RC product, a non-contact texture measurement system used by disk drive manufacturers; and TMS-2000-DUV-RC product that measures the surface microroughness of ceramic/glass. This segment's products also comprise dimensional sizing, ultrasonic measurement, and research and other measurement products. Schmitt Industries markets and sells the Balancer segment's products through independent manufacturer's representatives, distributors, and original equipment manufacturers; and Measurement segment's products through distributors. The company was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.
