United Bankshares, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides commercial and retail banking services and products. It offers checking, savings, time and money market deposit accounts; demand deposits, and statement and special savings; personal, commercial, floor plan, and student loans; construction and real estate loans; and money market accounts and certificates of deposit. The company also provides individual retirement accounts, safe deposit boxes, Internet banking, wire transfers, and other banking products and services, as well as credit card services. In addition, it offers trust services; services to correspondent banks, such as check clearing, safekeeping, and the buying and selling of federal funds; and mortgage loans, commercial real estate and rental property mortgage loans, commercial and industrial loans, financial institution loans, and agricultural loans. The company's nonbank subsidiaries engage in community banking services, such as asset management, real property title insurance, investment banking, financial planning, and brokerage services. As of May 19, 2009, it operated 114 full service offices in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Washington, D.C. United Bankshares, Inc. was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia.
