Wisconsin Energy Corporation, through its subsidiaries, generates and distributes electricity in the southeastern, east central, and northern Wisconsin, as well as in the upper peninsula of Michigan. The company also distributes natural gas; and owns, develops, and operates hydro, coal, nuclear, and wind electricity generating facilities, as well as invests in other energy-related entities. In addition, it develops and invests in real estate properties. The company serves customers operating in the areas of mining, paper, foundry, food products, and machinery production, as well as large retail chains and wholesale customers. As of December 31, 2008, it served 1,137,800 electric customers; 1,056,400 gas customers; 465 steam customers; and 3,060 water customers. Wisconsin Energy Corporation was founded in 1981 and is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
