Exide Technologies, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture and supply of lead acid batteries for transportation and industrial applications in the Americas, Europe, and internationally. The company operates in two segments, Transportation and Industrial Energy. The Transportation segment offers batteries, including ignition and lighting batteries for cars, trucks, off-road vehicles, agricultural and construction vehicles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, marine, and other applications. It offers batteries for the transportation market under the Centra, DETA, Exide, Exide Extreme, Exide NASCAR Select, Orbital, Fulmen, and Tudor brands, as well as other private labels brands. The Industrial Energy segment offers batteries for motive power and network power applications, as well as offers a range of battery chargers and related equipment for the operation and maintenance of battery-powered vehicles. Its motive power batteries are used in the material handling industry for electric forklift trucks, as well as in other industries, including floor cleaning machinery, powered wheelchairs, railroad locomotives, mining, and the electric road vehicles market. This segment's network power batteries are used to provide back-up power for use with telecommunications systems, computer installations, hospitals, air traffic control, security systems, utility, railway, and military applications. The company sells its aftermarket transportation products through various distribution channels, including mass merchandisers, auto parts outlets, wholesale distributors, and battery specialists; and original equipment manufacturers transportation replacement products principally through dealer networks. Exide Technologies was founded in 1888 and is based in Milton, Georgia.
